Greymouth Continued

Sunday was forecast for heavy rain coming in early afternoon and on waking the sky was already a cloudy grey, so different from the day before. In the hope that the forecast was accurate in saying early afternoon we set off for the Greymouth Golf course  which is a few minutes north east of the town. Just a handful of people already on the course with their club competition not starting until 12.30pm.

The course was flat and nice to play with no bunkers, just deep drains running across some of the fairways, one on the last par 3 being particularly invisible until you got close which was to my detriment! I liked the way the first 9 holes were at one end of the course and the second 9 at the other making it easy to find our way round. Good to find they had showers in the Clubhouse as well as often the South Island courses don't have especially in the ladies for some reason.
The rain started as soon as we were showered and back in the bus so our timing was good. They were happy for us to stay overnight which we did - a very very quiet location apart from the torrential rain which quickly layered itself over the carpark and filled the deep ditch running along the side of the road.
The rain stopped through the night and the sun was shining by the time we were up. Our mission today was to get our exploded tyre replaced by Downes  - there was a choice of about 4 places but Len liked their reviews best. We now feel more at ease with having a spare tyre in the boot again.
The other objective today was to hunt down the family of the young couple who helped us when the tyre burst as I wanted to give them a little gift for their trouble. We didn't have their names but she had told me that her father in law was a well known photographer in the area and had a shop in town. Well that sounds easy for tracking them down I thought, even though they live in Christchurch, and what do you know, it was! Stewart Nimmo has a lovely gallery with lots of artistic original jewellery, arts and crafts by artisans all over NZ as well as his own stunning photographs. I just hope Pip & Josh enjoy their merlot and scorched almonds, which Stu will pass on to them, as our wee thankyou.
We had lunch at Ali's cafe and a saunter around town in between getting the tyre fixed. There's a walk just up the coast we would like to do but tomorrow morning would be a better time than now seeing it is already after 4.00pm so we will stop for the night on the beachfront at Jellyman's Park again and listen to the roar of the West coast sea.
